THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN’

A queen once said, “These boots are made for walking, and that is what they’ll do. One of these days these boots, are gonna walk all over you,” the famous phrase of Nancy Sinatra’s These boots are made for walkin’.

Seen as items of footwear, protecting and comforting foot in various activities, footwear has been said to be dating back to 40 000 years B.C., with papyrus sleeves by Egyptians or leather if considering Persian heritage, serving as fabric.

Throughout time, shoes have served as a certain type of standard for different ethnicities. From royal statuses to high positions in court, the labels still find their way to present times where evolution is expressed louder than ancient times.

With different niches taking over now, and shoes being divided into their respective present hierarchies, expression seems effortless for some. This process thus far has also subjected wearers into categories and subcategories of niches, serving to provide a sense of identity or place in society. It is said for instance, sneaker junkies are of course in relation to the 2000s hip hop scene which again, reigned supreme in 2010 with straight caps and NBA tees/jackets, providing an oversized visualisation on one’s body. Ankle or knee length kitten/2-inch blocked square toe heels resembling the ‘80- ‘90s European femme fetale can serve as an alternative example, embracing the feel of leather, fur, and leopard print among the many. Or a combination of both resembling the modern feel of liberation to wear what one wants to wear as it is clichély deemed, “fashion is subjective and forever evolving,” or, “drawing into past and present inspirations.”

The cover however was inspired by the concept. It is a representation of what my ideal shoes looks like. What my ideal personality is, and lastly what my ideal status in society is. And to the girls that can read shoes like I do, please, “read me to filth,” is the phrase my sisters would use.

Until then, we really are what we wear. Remember that.
